Halo: The Master Chief Collection is about to get some major updates that will drastically rework code and improve functionality, courtesy of a small team within Industries dedicated solely to supporting old Halo games. Normally this would be good – if somewhat expected – news. What makes this particular turn of events notable is that it’s currently February , more than three years on from Halo: MCC’s original release date of November 11, It’s not like this hasn’t been coming for awhile, either. MCC was famously lambasted for unreliable matchmaking, sluggish performance, and general clunky bugginess. So what’s on the docket for the future? API stands for Application Programming Interface – essentially it’s a suite of tools and code for handling programming requests, ie. Popular Twitch Streamer Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel tried out the new Halo Master Chief Collection when it came out on Steam on December 3 and quickly found that controller, not mouse and keyboard, was the way to go. After getting nostalgic during his first few games of Halo Reach, xQc actually started to frag out and do pretty well in Halo and he gave all the credit to his controller.
At the end of the above clip, you can actually see the aim-assist in action very briefly and it does seem to latch right on to the enemy player. When xQc first started playing MCC he was using a mouse and keyboard and commented that there was noticeable input lag that seemed to go away or become less annoying with the switch to the controller.
A number of bugs are affecting the shooter including audio glitches and lag in the co-op campaign.
I can’t quite say this is the one I’ve been waiting for —that’s Halo 3—but Halo 2 joined the Master Chief Collection on PC Tuesday night, and it’s an ideal place to start really devoting time to Halo’s online multiplayer. It’s still fun, but not a game I’d dump hours of time into. Halo 2, even after 15 years, feels just deep enough. It’s still the kind of multiplayer game that can demands precision aiming, tight teamwork, and intricate map knowledge to master.
This is the moment on PC many Halo fans have been waiting for and after a few hours of testing I can say that if you plan to jump in now, be prepared to run into some bugs. As I wrote in my feature on Industries’ journey to bring the Halo series back to PC , there are some significant features still absent from the Master Chief Collection. Alternate keybinds are coming in a future update, and the developers are continuing to work on issues around screen tearing, which I ran into while testing Halo 2’s campaign.
Halo Reach’s audio issues remain, and are taking a long time to fix. Halo 2 doesn’t exhibit identical problems, though its audio isn’t perfect, either. I tested Halo 2 on a low-end system with a GTX Ti graphics card still roughly twice as powerful as the minimum spec stated on Steam , while hardware writer Jorge Jimenez tested on a much more powerful rig, with an RTX Super. On my system, even with the framerate limited to 60 fps, VSync on, and trying fullscreen and borderless windowed, I saw screen tearing that proved distracting.
I got the same result on the “Unlimited” fps option I really want to see the developers add a fps lock in the future but did notice less tearing when I turned the settings down to best performance rather than Enhanced.

It’s been really slow, and has been very vague about any form of release (PvE enemy wave-based combat) matchmaking, and multiplayer with 2v2, Halo: MCC PC will eventually launch on Microsoft Games online.
Halo: Reach has just launched on PC, and while it has been generally well-received — certainly a ton of folks are playing it — there are some issues with the shooter, most notably a problem with stuttering frame rates, and audio glitches. These top the list of known issues which has been posted by the developer, and the good news for those suffering from in-game stuttering is that there are some suggested fixes provided. Initial investigations indicate that some third-party gaming software can be a factor here, with Corsair iCue, Logitech G-Hub, and Razer Synapse being mentioned specifically.
Here at TechRadar Towers, we ran into issues with Razer Synapse, but we found that switching our headset for a different model was the solution — though admittedly we didn’t really try closing the software on its own. For those suffering on the sound front, the good news is at least work is underway on resolving the gremlin, and Industries says it will keep us updated on the progress of this fix.
Other reported issues include sluggish performance in the game menus, issues around screen tearing and V-Sync not performing as it should, and serious lag meaning a poor experience when playing the co-op campaign. The company has said it has seen “some improvement” following the patch, but that it is still “working around the clock” to improve matters further.
